An early morning in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire - June 3, 2018


I put the moth trap out last night and caught and identified 104 moths, covering forty-three species, fifteen of which were new for the year and one , The Campion, was new for the garden.

The following were recorded: Common Swift [1]; Diamond-back Moth [1]; Light Brown Apple Moth [6]; Green Oak Tortrix [4]; Cochylimorpha straminea [1]; Celypha lacunana [3]; Eucosma cana [1]; Notocelia cynosbatella [2]; Notocelia trimaculana [1]; Thistle Ermine [1]; Small Magpie [1]; Lime Hawk-moth [1]; Eyed Hawk-moth [2]; Elephant hawk-moth [3]; Riband Wave [1]; Garden Carpet [1]; Common Marbled Carpet [2]; Green Carpet [4]; Green Pug [2]; Foxglove Pug [1]; Freyer’s Pug [1]; Common Pug [6]; Mottled Pug [2]; Yellow-barred Brindle [1]; Brown Silver-line [1]; Brimstone Moth [5]; Clouded Silver [1]; Straw Dot [4]; Pale Tussock [2]; Buff Ermine [3]; White Ermine [3]; Common Footman [1]; Silver Y [3]; Large Nutmeg [1]; Rustic Shoulder-knot [7]; Marbled Minor species [1]; The Campion [1]; Varied Coronet [1]; Common Wainscot [1]; Heart and Dart [15]; The Flame [1] and Flame Shoulder [1].
