An early morning in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire - June 7, 2017

There were thirty-nine moths in the trap last night and I was able to identify all but two of them.  There were eight new for the year plus the two unidentified moths both of which turned out to be new for the year and one a lifer.  The lifer was a Peacock Moth, which is apparently quite rare in VC55, with the last being recorded in 2014 and it was only the sixteenth ever.

The following were recorded: Light Brown Apple Moth [1]; Celypha lacunana [2]; Bee Moth [1]; Eudonia mercurella [2]; Elephant Hawk-moth [1]; Flame Carpet [1]; Broken-barred Carpet [1]; Peacock Moth [1]; Scorched Wing [1]; Scalloped Hazel [1]; Peppered Moth [1]; Sallow Kitten [1]; Buff-tip [1]; Straw Dot [1] Buff Ermine [1]; White Ermine [1]; Orange Footman [1]; Small Fan-foot [1]; Silver Y [2]; The Shark [1]; Vine’s Rustic [1]; Brown Rustic [1]; Rustic Shoulder-knot [3]; Middle-barred Minor [1]; Bright-line Brown-eye [1]; Heart and Dart [7]; Large Yellow Underwing [1] and Setaceous Hebrew Character [1].
