An early morning in Wigston Magna, Leicestershire - August 24, 2017

I put the trap out last night and caught and identified 177 moths, covering thirty-four species, five of which were new for the year and two, Cochylis molliculana and Flounced Chestnut were lifers.


The following were recorded: Orange Swift [2]; Ermine species [1]; Blastobasis adustella [2]; Light Brown Apple Moth [14]; Cnephasia species [2]; Cochylis molliculana [1]; Phycitodes binaevella [1]; Crambus pascuella [1]; Agriphila tristella [24]; Agriphila straminella [7]; Agriphila geniculea [1]; Garden Carpet [1]; Yellow Shell [1]; Common Carpet [1]; Brimstone Moth [7]; Dusky Thorn [1]; Willow Beauty [12]; The Snout [1]; Gold Spot [2]; Copper Underwing [1]; Marbled Beauty [1]; Vine’s Rustic [2]; Angle Shades [1]; Rosy Rustic [1]; Flounced Rustic [2]; Common Rustic species [1]; Flounced Chestnut [1]; Flame Shoulder [3]; Small Square-spot [1]; Large Yellow Underwing [47]; Lesser Yellow Underwing [3]; Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing [1]; Square-spot Rustic [2] and Setaceous Hebrew Character [28].
