Roger and I decided to go to
Rutland Water as there had been a Temminck’s Stint present yesterday and today
although it had flown at 08:15 in very poor conditions and we were hoping it
would be re-found but it was not seen again.
The conditions were very poor
and we decided to go to snipe hide where the Temminck’s had been seen both
yesterday and today. We did locate a
Little Ringed Plover, a Common Sandpiper and seven Green Sandpipers. The pair of Shelduck were still present on the
small flash with their seven young and there was also three Little Egrets. AS there was no sign of the Temminck’s we
walked to Shelduck hide on lagoon five were we had a Little Ringed Plover and
another Green Sandpiper. Pintail hide on
lagoon six produced my first Little Ringed Plover and Common Tern young, there
being a single Little Ringed Plover and three Common Terns. There was also a Common Sandpiper on the
lagoon but little else. We must have had
at least nine Oystercatcher and they appear to be staying longer this
year. With the weather deteriorating we
had lunch and then came home.
I also found a Dark Arches
moth in Shelduck hide.
We called at Wistow Church
where we found a Spotted Flycatcher and a Treecreeper and at Newton Harcourt we
located two Goldcrest and a Nuthatch.
