A brief visit to Newton Harcourt, Leicestershire - Augsu 5, 2015

I made brief visit to the area around the church at Newton Harcourt this morning as David had been seeing Spotted Flycatcher quite regularly.  I agreed to meet David but he is still not able to use his bins following his eye operation.  After parking the car I walked beyond the church and almost immediately saw a Spotted Flycatcher in the garden of the manor house.  As I walked further down the road I found at least another three and also had a Nuthatch and Treecreeper.  When David arrived we stopped near the gate overlooking the church and saw a Green Woodpecker in flight near the canal.  We continued to the bridge over the canal where there was party of Long-tailed Tits that contained several Blue Tits and a single Chiffchaff.  Further up the road we saw a couple of Bullfinches and there was also a distant mewing Buzzard but we were unable to locate the Blackcap David had heard as he walked down the lane.  When we got back to the canal bridge the tit party had moved off but another Treecreeper provided some excellent views and a Great Spotted Woodpecker flew over.  I finally walked down the lane once more having further views of a Spotted Flycatcher and also a Coal Tit.
