A brief visit to Victoria Park, Leicester - August 24, 2018

There was a WhatsApp message this morning indicating that yesterday’s Pied Flycatcher was still present early a.m. and so David and I decided to give it another go.

It was a little more difficult parking today, but we eventually found a space and walked across the road to the park.  There were no other birders present this morning, but the area was in the sun and out of the wind.  We walked onto the path and began looking at the trees but initially there was nothing and then we both saw a bird fly in, which looked promising, but it disappeared into the foliage.  A few minutes later David said I've got it and provided directions and we were then both able to watch the probable first-year European Pied Flycatcher sitting in full view for several minutes.  It moved around a few times but always sat in pretty much full view and behaving very different from yesterday.  As we left a Great Spotted Woodpecker flew over and we heard a Goldcrest as we were going back to the car.

Roger called when we got back to check the location, but he failed to see it in about two hours, although it was reported again on the 25th.
