We met at 07:00 as agreed and headed for Dorback where we would hopefully
fine Black and Red Grouse. We stopped
near the summit of the hill and looked back and did see a distant Black
Grouse. We drove back down the road and
parked in a gateway where we had much better view with one of three birds
showing very well. Roger saw a couple of
Red Grouse but I missed them and so we went to an area where we had seen them
before and found one quite close to the road.
Red Grouse
With the two grouse in the bag we headed back to Nethy Bridge but there was some confusion as to where Mark had told us to go for the Crested Tits and as luck would have it we spent a good thrity minutes looking in the wrong area and seeing very little.
After breakfast whilst saying our goodbyes to Margaret and David another
birder gave us directions to where he had photographed Crested Tits
yesterday. Roger and I decided we would
go and have a look before setting off but Margaret and David were unable to
join us. When we got to the site we
realised that it was where Mark had suggested we go but after forty minutes we
still hadn’t seen any Crested Tits at the feeders where they were photographed
yesterday, seeing just a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Coal Tit, a Great Tit,
three Eurasian Bullfinch and two Common Chaffinch.

We eventually called it a day at 09:40 and started our long journey back
home arriving back during the early evening.
