I made a brief visit this
afternoon to the dam at Pitsford Reservoir, Northamptonshire as a Red-necked
Grebe had been reported over the last three days.
I parked close to the dam and
walked the short distance to the bell tower and found the grebe just beyond the
tower. It was just too far away to
photograph and when it started to dive it went even further and with an
approaching shower I called it a day and went back to the car. This species has become increasing scarce,
particularly inland, in recent years and is now a good bird to get n the year
list. A Red Kite over the dam and couple
of Grey Wagtails on the dam were the only other birds of note.
