I visited Cossington Meadows
following a report of two Spotted Redshanks and a Wood Sandpiper on Holbey Lake
this morning. After parking the car I
walked through the reserve to the northern end and Holbey Lake. The viewing of this lake is a bit limited but
one of the Spotted Redshanks was immediately visible and it wasn’t too long
before I found the Wood Sandpiper and the second Spotted Redshank. There were also two Oystercatchers, at least
four Little Ringed Plover and four Common Terns on the lake edges and several
Swift and House Martins were overhead. A
Redshank was also found on the nest lake and a Little Egret was seen in a field
with a flash and some horses. Five
Grasshopper Warblers had been reported and so I took a look on the walk back
and heard one singing but couldn’t see in the dense vegetation. There were also several Whitethroats and Reed
Warblers and single Chiffchaff, Garden Warbler and Sedge Warbler were heard.
