With news of an adult summer
White-winged Black Tern in the north arm at Rutland Water, David and I decided
to go over to hopefully see it.
When we arrived there quite a
few local birders present including Roger and Steve and the bird was still
present. When we first scanned we were
unable to find it but we eventually picked it up as it came towards us from the
tower. Whilst it never came close enough
to get any real good photos it did provided some nice views and what stunning
birds they are and my second this month.
A Little Stint had also been reported but this had been re-identified as
a Sanderling, which was on the bund.

There were also two Dunlin on
the bund and at least five Common Terns in the north arm and a Red Kite and a
Buzzard were observed over Burley Wood.
An Osprey was eating a fish on the platform in the fishponds and
provided a nice photo opportunity.

We made a quick visit to the
centre to see if a Turnstone reported earlier was still there but we were
unable to find it and set off for home, seeing another Red Kite on the edge of
Egleton.
