We had the grandchildren for the weekend and decided to have a day out at
Dovedale in Derbyshire. We left home
before 08:00 and arrived at Dovedale at around 09:20, with the car park not
being too busy and plenty of space.
After applying sun cream, we set off walking north towards the stepping
stones and Clia and I negotiated them without any problem. Fleur, the youngest, was waiting for her
grandmother to give her a helping hand but my wife wasn’t too keen and Clia
went back twice to bring them both across.
As we walked further along the footpath I picked up a White-throated
Dipper feeing in the river, which then allowed us to have some rather nice
views before flying off downstream.
There weren’t too many other people about at this stage, but it was
obviously quite tolerant of people getting quite close.
We continued along the path and climbed a rather steep hill and after a
rest went down the other side but didn’t go much further before turning and
heading back to the car. When we reached
the stepping stones my wife decided she was going to go back on the opposite
side and then cross a bridge further downstream. However, this proved not to be a great choice
as the path was quite rough and difficult in places.
I had the bins with me but didn’t see a great deal other than the dipper,
although three Common Buzzards performed whilst we were resting at the top of
the hill and I also heard a Green Woodpecker and a Common Chiffchaff.
