I went to Albert Village Lake
this afternoon with Roger and Dave in the hope of seeing some unusual gulls.
Whilst we were there they was
always some gulls on the lake and at times this would swell as birds came off
the tip and another resting area. What
was surprising was the number of Lesser Black-backed Gulls present, which is a
gull I have not seen too many of since the start of the year, but they were
almost certainly the commonest of the larger gulls. The was no sign of the recent first-winter
Glaucous Gull and we were unable to locate either a Caspian or Yellow-legged
Gull but did find a rather smart Mediterranean Gull that was almost in full
summer plumage.
A party of Lesser Redpoll most
have contained at least forty birds was also a nice surprise.
